Description
Demilune shaped apothecary mixing table. Base of oak with cherry veneer, plain skirt, 4 square tapered legs with cross stretcher. Inset white marble top, the mixing surface, 2" lip veneered with cherry surrounds. Used by Dr. Daniel Sheldon (1750-1840) of Hartford, studied with Dr. Bird in South Farms, became Dr. in Litchfield.
Comment
The LHS has in its Library Collections, Dr. Sheldon's medical library. The Historical Society also owns his desk on frame (1976-07-1), and his library bookcase (CA1890-19-1), and a miniature of him at age 81 by Anson Dickinson (1908-24-0).
