Description
Off-white linen patchwork. Stripes and calico squares in blues, browns and reds. Nine-patch variation blocks. Plain weave and damask linen. Back of coarsely-woven linen. Cross-stitched embroidered "LW" in blue at top center back. Rolled hem. Hand stitched.

Attached hand-written note: "Pieced quilt made by Lavina Ensign Woodruff. Started about 1795 when she was five years old." Lavina Ensign Woodruff (later Westover) was born in 1791 in the South Farms section of Litchfield. She attended the Morris Academy sometime before 1810. LHS also has an archival collection of Lavina Westover papers.
