Description
Clear glass bottle with cylindrical body, tapered neck, and narrow mouth. Bottle has a metal flip-top or "lightning" closure. Molded glass body with mold seams on either side. Raised lettering on front, "REGISTERED" and "H.M. JONES/LITCHFIELD/CONN." in raised circle. Raised lettering on opposite side, "THIS BOTTLE/NOT TO BE SOLD." Raised lettering on bottom, "D." Bottle size appears to be 14 oz.
Provenance
Similar in size and appearance to the numerous E.L. Phelps bottles in the collection. Eugene L. Phelps was the proprietor of Phelps Tavern, appearing on a liquor license in 1911 (LHS archives) and printed ads in the 1920s. These bottles are likely for soda or beer.
