Description
Square chintz textile fragment featuring roller printed design on blue ground. Design features repeating pattern of quails in rose trees, done in red, yellow, and blue. Originally glazed cotton.
Provenance
Fragment is from bed hanging in Danbury home of donor's grandfather (Col. Joseph Platt Cooke). Accession record contains a note that George Washington may have slept in the bed. The pattern is similar to those produced by Bannister Hall Print Works, Preston, Lancashire, England.
