Description
Serigraph print entitled "Connecticut Valley" by Thomas McKnight. Landscape scene showing a town set on a series of rolling hills. Multiple structures visible, including a number of multi-story white houses with black roofs, smaller outbuildings, barns, and a white church with black roof and tall steeple. Plowed fields and paths also visible throughout town. Multiple birds sit on flowers and bushes in the immediate foreground. Behind them, a man with fishing poles walks with two dogs on a path while another reclines in the lower-left of the scene. A figure rows a boat in a lake or pond to the far right, with a second figure waiting on shore and a third crossing a stone bridge that passed over a river leading from the lake. Multiple other figures visible in the distance. The landscape meets the skyline about 2/3 of the way up the image, with the sun just visible above the hills (either setting or rising). Thin, puffy clouds in the sky. Signed in pencil at lower-right, "McKnight" and marked in pencil at lower-left, "AP 39/50." Stamped in black ink on reverse, "C THOMAS MCKNIGHT/1990."
Provenance
Known for his colorful interior scenes and landscapes, Thomas McKnight was commissioned from 1994 to 1996 by the White House to paint scenes for President Clinton's official Christmas card.
