Description
Brown leather doctor's bag, plain with no pockets. Hinged lid in two pieces. Lid reinforced with metal around edges. At the center on one side of the lid is a brass closure with a button release. Two brass rings attached to lid, one of either side of closure. Bag lined with dark green silk. Attached to front of bag are metal letters "ECB." Short length of thin rope tied through rings on lid.
Provenance
Used by W. David Dobbins Sr. (donor's father) as a hunting bag. Likely given to him or his father by Dr. John L. Buel, who worked at the Spring Hill Sanitarium (also known as the Spring Hill Home for Nervous Invalids) and was a close from of the Dobbins family. The bag likely served as a doctor's bag for one of the Buels.
Comment
The Dobbins purchased farmland on Norfolk Road from the Buels. In 1926, the Spring Hill Sanitarium was purchased and the buildings were organized into the Spring Hill School.
