Description
World War I era pin, medal, and ribbon. Red, white and blue vertically-striped, grosgrain ribbon. Medal attached at bottom of ribbon using metal rings. On one side is governmental building (U.S. Treasury Department) with eagle underneath and text "Victory Liberty Loan" around bottom. On the back of the medal is text "Awarded/by/The US Treasury/Department/for/Patriotic Service/in Behalf of the/Liberty Loans" Around the outer edge is text "Made from Captured German Cannon." Blue, white, and red button attached to top of ribbon, with text "Liberty/Loan/Volunteer" set around a blue "V."
Provenance
The steel forming the medal was taken from a German cannon that was captured by American troops at Château-Thierry in France. The medallions were awarded by the U.S. Treasury Department to Victory Liberty Loan campaign volunteers.
