Description
Oil on canvas bust portrait, an oval within a rectangular picture, of a young woman, dark brown hair straight to shoulder, black hairband placed askew toward front, blue dress, off the shoulder and with empire waist, white lace trim around neckline of dress, three stranded gold necklace. Framed in wooden frame with floral plaster decoration in each corner, gilded.
Comment
The portrait is suspect, since the dress and the hairstyle are that of a later generation. The dress suggests the 1830's, the empire styling is completely off the shoulder and the arms and front are tucked as in seen in the 1830's walking or day dresses. Theodosia was dead by 1813.
