Description
Green cotton patch, American Red Cross. Circular patch with a red embroidered edge and dark green ground. At center is a red cross with white embroidered edge. In red embroidered lettering around cross, "AMERICAN RED CROSS/MOTOR SERVICE." Cotton backstitching on reverse; cut edge.
Provenance
From the estate of Margery Boyd (1906-1992), a longtime volunteer with the Litchfield Chapter, American Red Cross. Born in New York, Boyd moved to Litchfield with her family. She began with the Red Cross as a canvasser in 1927; founded the Chapter's Motor Service in 1942; and served as chapter chair on three occasions. She received the Connecticut Red Cross Volunteer Recognition Award and the Clara Barton Medal.
