Description
Metal mortar and pestle. Stepped base on mortar, with straight sides. Stepped, flared rim. Three mold lines evenly spaced around outside of mortar, with one mold line across center of base. Yellowish/brass wash covering visible metal surfaces. Pestle has small button knob at upper end and round shaft flaring out to a round knob at working end. Pestle also has yellowish/brass wash.
Provenance
Removed along with other items from Murphy's Pharmacy on West Street, Litchfield, after the business closed in 2019.
Comment
Murphy's Pharmacy began as the Marley Pharmacy, opened by William Marley after the left the business partnership of Crutch & Marley located farther up West Street. The pharmacy was purchased by Joseph Murphy sometime between 1948 and 1951.
