Description
Whitework embroidery coverlet. Heavy linen ground with all over embroidered design. 5 lines around outside of coverlet - center line has shamrocks or snowflakes along line at intervals. Inside these lines is a border of tulips joined by 3 lines that swag from flower to flower. Interior has a large outline of a shamrock. Star in center, 4 fern leaves pointing towards star. Two ends hemmed.

"Made in Litchfield for my great-great-grandparents John and Catherine Marsh Bissell, used in their home on East Street. Initials in corner are of the maker. SS stands for seamstress and the 12 stands for 1812..."
