Description
Small piece of homespun linen sandwiched between two pieces of glass with paper edging. Paper label inside of glass, written in ink, "A Piece of the suit/of clothing made by/the ladies of Connec/ticut for Genl Washing/ton during the War."
Comment
For his inauguration, George Washington wore a suit of brown broadcloth made at the Hartford Woolen Manufactory in Connecticut. This sample, however, is noted as being from a suit made for Washington during the war.
