Description
Wood splint - either to be worn at knee or elbow. One piece rounded, cup shaped attached to arched strip of wood with brass nails and hinges. 4 brass rings - two at each end where canvas strap is/would be woven. Red and white canvas strap woven at one end of brass rings. Stamped on the outside of the splint is "B. WELCH/ PATENT 1860/ LAKEVILLE CT."

Dr. Benjamin Welch of Lakeville, CT began manufacturing splints soon after 1850. All of the splints manufactured were by his own design and patent.
