Description
Wooden sign from Camp Columbia. Hand-carved wooden sign painted white, with carved lettering reading "CAMP/COLUMBIA" at the top and bottom and "COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY/SCHOOL OF SURVEYING" encircling a carved symbol of a mallet, chisel, and capital "C". All lettering carved into wood and painted light blue to resemble the official colors of Columbia University. Center panel formed by four rectangular wooden pieces, with large metal fasteners joining the top and side rails. Top and bottom of sign have carved crests, also painted white.
Provenance
Camp Columbia ran from 1885-1983, providing a field school for Columbia's engineering and surveying students.
