Description
Tempera on board painting of a landscape scene executed in a soft pastel pallet. Two large trees in the foreground with two figures walking or running to the left of the trees towards the viewer. Behind the figures the landscape slopes uphill to the left, where it is densely forested. Rolling hills can be seen in the background along the horizon line.
Comment
Born in London, England, William Emerson was an architect and a painter of tonalist landscapes. He was active in Chicago and New Preston, Connecticut. He was a member of the New York Watercolor Club, Chicago Watercolor Club, Chicago Society of Artists, and the Westchester Art Institute and exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute.
