Description
Watercolor on ivory portrait miniature of the uncle of A. D. Moore, possibly a "Doctor De Gourque," by an unknown artist, possibly Pierre Henri. Bust portrait of a man wearing a blue jacket with a spotted white vest and stock tie. The man has grey hair or is in a grey wig and has brown eyes. Facing front left against a background of white, grey, and blue. Oval portrait set in square frame of period papier mache, with gold bevel and top hanger. The portrait is under glass and is held in frame by metal tabs at back. A brown paper card on reverse reads "born 1768/died 1831/Doctor/ De Gourque [?]/uncle of A. D. Moore."
Provenance
Part of a lot of Dickinson miniatures of the Moore Family purchased from Marika's in Boston in the 1960s. Originally purchased in Troy, NY.
