Description
G.A.R. medal celebrating the 250th anniversary of New London and the dedication of Soldiers and Sailors Monument in 1896. Gold metal bar pin with a red, white and blue striped ribbon woven through and silver printing: "1646 1896 / NEW LONDON'S / 250th ANNIVERSARY / AND / DEDICATION / SOLDIERS' and SAILORS / MONUMENT / W.W. PERKINS / POST, NO. 47, G.A.R. / ..... / NEW LONDON, CONN. / MAY 6, 1896." Three-quarters down the ribbon a circular medal is attached to the ribbon with two pins. Medal has the image of the G.A.R. medal with the words: "GRAND ARMY / OF THE REPUBLIC ." Long gold metal fringe. Mark stamped at top, reverse of ribbon. Paper sticker at bottom.
