Description
Unfinished painting of Daniel Webster. Head and shoulder portrait with subject almost full face. His brown receeding hair reveals a prominent forehead and is worn long in back. He has brown eyes under a prominent brow. Webster wears a black coat with a yellow silk lining turned at opening, a starched white shirt with stiff, high collar and black bow tie. Written on back of canvas "unfinished portrait of Daniel Webster by George Catlin bought from Catlin's nephew"

Painting was worked on at the Cooperstown Graduate Programs Department of Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works and according to notes they believed the style is not George Catlin's and the portrait is a copy of a well known daguerreotype of Daniel Webster that has been copied by other artists.
