Description
Purple heart medal awarded to Charles A. Flament, PFC in the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion, who was killed during the Battle of the Bulge. It is possible that Flament was the first casualty from Litchfield in WWII. A - Medal, with ribbon pin. Marked "For Military Merit/Charles A. Flament" on reverse; portrait of George Washington in gold on obverse. B - Ribbon bar C - Case for medal, leather with faux velvet interior D-E - Two purple ribbon pieces with white borders
