Description
Souvenir book bank produced for the Litchfield Savings Society, Litchfield, Connecticut. Rectangular bank of gold metal with leather-bound cover, meant to resemble a book. Leather is heavily embossed and colored black and dark green. Front has an image of the bank building with text underneath, "THE LITCHFIELD SAVINGS SOCIETY/ LITCHFIELD, CONN."; reverse has text "MUTUAL SAVINGS BANK OF CONNECTICUT" surrounding word "STABILITY" set in oval shape. The spine has text "BOOK OF THRIFT" above a column with winged capitol and numerals "VIII". Opening for coins at top and keyhole to right, engraved on bottom "BANKER UTILITIES CO./ SAN FRANCISCO/ PATENTED/ JULY 3, 1923/ MADE IN U.S./ 445".
