Description
Glazed earthenware sugar bowl used as a toy or play teaware. Matches teacups (2016-52-25 a-f) and cream pitcher (2016-52-26). A - White ceramic sugar bowl with blue transfer-printed decoration and two small, square handles. Hexagonal base and opening at top. Identical Asian-inspired scenes on either side extending above the should region, depicting two figures standing in the foreground with two pagodas in the background. Lattice and floral patterns around top rim, with lattice motifs on handles. Marked "42" on bottom. B - White ceramic lid with transfer-printed decoration. Hexagonal lid with small hexagonal knob. Lattice and floral patterns around rim with lattice motif on knob.
Provenance
Belonged to Margaret Sargent Fisher, wife of Samuel H. Fisher, who grew up in New Haven in the 1870s-1880s. Later displayed in Babbitt home.
