Description
Queen Anne cherry flat top highboy made in two sections. The upper section with applied shaped cornice on front and sides over case with central carved sunburst flanked by two small drawers on both sides over four graduated drawers. The lower section with shaped waist molding on front and sides over frame with long long drawer over three box drawers. All drawers with lip molded edges. The highboy appears to retain its original brass hardware. The upper and lower sunburst carved drawers do not match. All supported on all slender cabriole legs with applied shaped knee brackets, ending on pad feet with turned under pads.
Comment
The highboy descended through the Gridley family of Harwinton, CT. The donor received it from his grandparents who had moved from Connecticut to Virginia in the early 20th century. Full genealogy of the Gridley family is located in the accession file.
