Description
REDWARE FLOWER POT WITH SMALLER CIRCULAR BASE AND FLARING STRAIGHT SIDES, WHICH RISE TO A LARGER TOP OPENING. POT HAS DECORATIVE BAND LIP AT THE TOP EDGE EXTERIOR AND A DRAINAGE HOLE IN THE BASE. THE POT IS UNGLAZED. THERE ARE TWO INSCRIPTIONS, OPPOSITE EACH OTHER ON THE SIDES OF THE FLOWER POT. THE FIRST READS "G.WOLFF / 1998." THE SECOND INSCRIPTION READS "LITCHFIELD / H.S.M." H.S.M. STANDS FOR HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM. A SMALL SQUARE STICKER ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FLOWER POT INDICATES THAT THIS ITEM WAS MEANT FOR SALE IN THE MUSEUM GIFT SHOP. tHE STICKER READS, "P304 / 11.----" MAKER GUY WOLFF USES THE DESIGNS OF ANOTHER LOCAL POTTER, 19TH CENTURY GOSHEN, CT, POTTER HERVEY BROOKS, TO INSPIRE HIS MODERN DESIGNS.
