Description
Print of a rectangle of red on left and a rectangle of blue on right which are partially intersected by a white rectangle between them. The names of famous French painters are done in script writing with a black felt pen on colored areas and disappear under center white piece. On front, left side "French Painters" at bottom and on right "Ivan Chermayeff 1970". In upper left corner of back in ink "5013 Chermayeff & Geismer" Framed in silver aluminum frame under plexi.
Comment
Ivan Chermayeff was a renowned designer and artist whose firm, Chermayeff & Geismar (& Haviv) produced logos for Pan American Airlines, PBS, Mobil, National Geographic, the Smithsonian, and many others. At the time of donation, Chermayeff lived on East Chestnut Hill Road. Chermayeff gave a talk on 20th Century Design at the Historical Society.
