Officer's dress coat; navy blue fine wool with dark green quilted silk lining; velvet collar stands up - velvet on inside; double breasted; seven american eagle brass buttons per side; hidden brass hook and eye between bottom two buttons; seat at waist; shoulder bars of silver and gold cord; leaf motif in royal blue velvet; two buttons at back of waist; two buttons 2/3 way down vent; three small brass buttons on each sleeve

Jacket worn by Dr. Charles Squire Wood, US Volunteers, Civil War. Dr. Wood was born in Litchfield in 1825. He studied with Drs. Beckwith and Seymour. He lived and practiced in NYC. He died in 1890 and is buried in West Cemetary in Litchfield
