Round medal with raised edges. Face of medal shows bust profile of subject facing left. Inscription reads "GEORGE STEPHENSON BORN JUNE 9, 1781 AT WYLAM, NEW CASTLE ON TYNE DIED AUG. 12, 1848" On back side of medal is image of first locomotive on tracks, inscribed "GEORGE STEPHENSON CENTENARY MEDAL" with "No. 1825" under inscription.
