Description
Cherry card table, rectangular top hinged to open to create a larger surface. Top inlaid with a large oval patterea and four 1/4 pattarea in the corners, deep skirt, in front with two open fret work panels either side a central inlaid patterea, gaddrooned along bottom edge of skirt, patterea on leg terminals, square tapered legs with cuffs. Legs are straight and taper to bottom. Thin piece of inlay at bottom of each leg. Fifth leg on back that is hinged to swing out and support table top when fully extended.
Comment
There is a brass plaque on one side of the table noting that Aaron Burr played cards on this table when he was in Litchfield. There is no concrete evidence that Tapping Reeve ever owned this table or that Aaron Burr played cards on it.
