Description
The crown is made of two sections of thick, hard leather sewn together in the center. A tin crest is fitted between the two leather flanges and fastened with leather thongs over the top, front to back. Crest extends upward from hat in a crescent shape and is covered with gold leaf with black japanned edges. 11 holes of varying shapes cut in tin crescent to hold horse hair that is now missing. The thick leather visor and frontispiece are fastened to front edge of crown and the visor has a brass strip fitted over edge and held at each end with a brass rivet. The inside has cut paper pasted to top of crown, then label over that. There is a lining of cotton with a drawstring around hole in top. The lining is sewn with linen thread to the inside edge of leather crown and contains a narrow head band consisting of a strip of brown felt and a strip of home woven thick yellow wool.
