Description
Large, glazed creamware platter with blue transfer printed decoration. Straight sides and ends with rounded corners with diagonals at the corners. Well is oval shaped with tapered, raised rim. Body is creamy white with dark blue transfer printed decoration in center and on rim. Medallion in center shows four white horses drawing a chariot. Two figures stand in the chariot. They are drawn in outline and are silhouetted against a blue diaper background. There is a conventional garland at the top and three isolated floral motifs below and a Fleur de Lys border. Ends and sides are decorated with a series of cartouches and centered by a bird atop a globe. Diagonal sections contain a pair of mythical human/fish figures. Stamped "Wedgwood & Co." on the bottom.
