Description
Glazed earthenware teacups used as a toys or play teaware. White ceramic, handleless teacups with blue transfer-printed decoration on interior and exterior. Exterior has two identical scenes showing two figures standing in the foreground of an Asian-inspired landscape with two pagodas and a ship. Interior has a pagoda at the center of the bowl and lattice and floral patterns around rim. E and F are finished in a brown crackled glaze, but have identical decoration. The six cups match the creamer (2016-52-26) and sugar bowl (2016-52-27 a,b).
Provenance
Belonged to Margaret Sargent Fisher, wife of Samuel H. Fisher, who grew up in New Haven in the 1870s-1880s. Later displayed in Babbitt home.
