Description
Banner made of blue silk. Six red and white and blue ribbon loops across top of banner. Bordered with gold rope fringe. Front of banner embroidered with four grape clusters in corners, with "C", "V", "H", and "A" embroidered in each of the four corners below the grape clusters. Red cross embroidered in center with a "2" embroidered in white in center. Two embroidered gold cannons embroidered crossing diagonally behind the red cross. Banner is backed in purple silk. Banner accompany by original wooden storage case. Case is rectangular with two hooks to secure a hinged top. Front of the case has stamped brass bail handle and a keyhole. Wooden pole for hanging banner inside case.
Provenance
Made for 2nd Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery. The banner likely dates from after the Civil War.
