Long, narrow, blue ribbon printed with the words, "World's Columbian Exposition, CATTLE/ FIRST PREMIUM, DIVISION A/ CHICAGO, 1893."
Comment
This ribbon was awarded to Professor Egbert Lyon for his oxen. The steers were named Tim and Jim. Egbert Lyon was born June 8, 1859 in the Northville section of Washington, Connecticut. He learned his father's trade of masonry and plastering, but left after developing a fear of heights. He settled on a farm in the Whigville section of Burlington, CT and it was there that he began training his oxen to do tricks. He married Adella Louise Merrill of Collinsville or New Hartford, CT in 1885. They had 5 children. Prof. Lyon died February 3, 1931. He and his wife are burried in Hillside Cemetery in Torrington, CT.They traveled around to various agricultural fairs performing including the World's Columbian Exposition.
