Description
Glazed earthenware platter used as a toy or play teaware. White ceramic with blue transfer-printed decoration. Platter features an image of four children seated by a large urn which holds a cluster of flowers and plants. There is a castle visible to the far right and a boat to the far left. Around the rim is a border of geometric designs adorned with flowers and acanthus leaves. Scalloped edge. Impressed into platter is a series of three crescent shapes with a thin line intersecting them down the middle, and a small ovoid well at the far right. Two short, curved feet on bottom.
Provenance
Belonged to Margaret Sargent Fisher, wife of Samuel H. Fisher, who grew up in New Haven in the 1870s-1880s. Later displayed in Babbitt home.
