Description
English calico- printed in colors, in floral designs. This is probably a foot curtain for a bedstead. The top is bound in linen twill tape and there are evidences of the curtain having been fastened or loops sewn on. The tape is also worked in a scallop 9” from the top. The arborescent design printed on unbleached linen combines indienne and vernacular motifs in a most amusing way. It is entwined with parasitic vines with flowers and leaves in the indienne style. An exotic bird perches on a branch and below is an unlikely tree bearing both flowers and fruit containing a nest with four eggs, a gnarled branch winds through the pattern bearing panicles of more naturalistic flowers. The rocks and tree trunk are a free rendition of palampore designs. 27”x68.5“(selvage to selvage) (Half drop 30.25” repeat)
