Description
Penmanship drawing done in red, blue and black ink. Female figure at bottom with ribbons in her hat. Large rosette to the right of the woman. Floral designs also along bottom. Framed in an Adirondack wood frame with leaf corners, not original to piece. Written on back of frame "By William Harrison Green done in Litchfield Jail State of Connecticut/Commandments came commanding all men/Cincinnati is the queen city of the West/Mammon Communications Wheeling City/Birmingham Denmark London".
Comment
William Harrison Green was tried and convicted for murdering his second wife. The drawing was completed while he was in jail. There is a notice in the Litchfield Enquirer Thursday, January 23, 1868 that describes his ornmental drawings.
