Description
World War I era campaign hat. Olive green/brown felt hat with tall rounded crown and 3" wide flat brim all the way around; green grosgrain ribbon wrapped around base of crown as well as two black and gold striped cords; knotted in back with covered toggles at ends of chord; no lining on inside, but brown leather band; a thin green ribbon attached to middle of sides - broken off on one side; on band in gold "Brooks Brothers Madison Ave. Cor. 44th St. N.Y." and stamped on band "John B. Stetson No. 1 Quality."

Worn by Dr. Edward H. Raymond Jr. of Litchfield, Connecticut, during World War I.
Comment
Commissioned officers were allowed to wear a gold and black striped campaign cord around their campaign hat, indicating that Raymond was an officer (possibly a Colonel).
