Description
Aluminum frame lounge chair made by the Warren McArthur Corporation. A - Anodized aluminum frame formed by tubular members joined with aluminum rings. Raised on four legs supported by rubber disc pads. Circular armrests with square seat and seat back. Armrests have been reupholstered in a red fabric, while the seat and seat back remain upholstered in the original orange/rust fabric. The front legs continue up to form the arms and join with the support rail for the seat back, before curving downwards and joining with the side seat rails. The back legs are formed by a continuous piece of tubular aluminum that also forms the side and front seat rails, and joins with the front legs and the back seat rail. The seat frame is formed by two sections of continuous aluminum tubing, each starting at the front seat rail, traveling along the base of the seat to the back seat rail, and continuing up the seat back before curving downwards and returning to the front seat rail (similar construction to settee, 2016-36-5). B - Bottom cushion, upholstered in original orange/rust fabric. C - Back cushion, upholstered in original orange/rust fabric.
Provenance
Part of a collection owned by twin brothers Dr. John Houlihan (dental surgeon) and Dr. James Houlihan (optometrist). Used in their medical office waiting room in Torrington, CT. Purchased in 1939 by Dr. John Houlihan from the Superintendent of the Warren McArthur Corporation in Bantam, CT.
