Description
Tilt top table, turned pedestal base with three scrolled cabriole legs. Top of table has mahogany veneer. Circle on surface of top with border of segmented crotch veneer and light wood string bands at edge. Note glued to bottom of table (now removed and in accession file) "The Beecher Table/Made by Mr. Ralph P. Smith, Litchfield/The wood of the top is from a part of/the Pulpit in the former Congregational/Church, Litchfield, Conn./Presented to the/Litchfield Historical Society/by Mrs. J. Deming Perkins/--1907"
Comment
Ralph P. Smith was a senior Warden of St. Michael's Church in 1921 and was a member before 1911. The pulpit of the Congo Church was stored in the meeting house until the church was moved to Torrington Road in the 1870s.
