Description
Tan drawstring light canvas bag with pink tape ties. Front decorated with three 1 3/4" x 1" ribbon flags "hanging" from an embroidered rope. Flags represent USA, France and Great Britain.
Provenance
Belonged to Dr. Edward H. Raymond Jr. of Litchfield, Connecticut, who served during World War I. Donor's correspondence indicates it was presented "by ladies of Etretat" in Normandy, France.
Comment
The rightmost flag is the British Red Ensign, as opposed to the actual flag of the United Kingdom. The Red Ensign was primarily used as the flag for merchant shipping.
