Object Name
Architectural Fragment - Paneling
Object Number
2017-46-1
Description
Decorative paneling from Lynde Lord house, Litchfield. Rectangular board, square cut at one edge and miter cut at the other. Front painted white, with evidence of grey paint underneath. Two oval paterae or sunburst medallions on front, 5.75" high x 2.75" wide. Narrow strip of bare wood along one horizontal edge. Nail holes and gouges on reverse.
Provenance
The house was constructed in 1771 for Lynde Lord Sr., attributed in one source to Giles Kilbourne. The property remained in the Lord family until 1831, passing to the Deming family and then into other ownership. The donor noted that the paneling was removed from the home's rear wing, suggesting it was part of a post-1910 Colonial Revival addition likely completed by Anna Sanford Ferry (see architectural survey for more information).
