Chairs have history associated with Washington's farewell address at Fraunces Tavern on Dec.4, 1783. Chairs at tavern, possibly given as tokens to aides de camps (including Tallmadge and Putnam) or made later to commemorate day. One chair descended from Benjamin Tallmadge. His son Frederick married Elizabeth Canfield. Their daughter Elizabeth married J.P. White. Their daughter Annie Louise White married Frank Underhill. Their daughter Cora Underhill married Jerald Lowe. Her second marriage was to Watson Beach Day. She died in 1960 leaving the chairs to her niece Mrs. Price Glover. The other chair descended from Israel Putnam through Cora Underhill's second husband Watson Beach Day, who was Putnam's descendant.
