Comment
This piece was long believed to be made in Litchfield County, with features similar to highboys made in Wethersfield, Connecticut (possibly through regional movement of a Wethersfield-trained cabinetmaker). The piece has multiple stylistic and construction similarities to two extant highboys made by Elijah Loveland (1745-1826), active in Newington and Berlin. Further research would be needed to know if Loveland eventually worked in Litchfield County, or whether that attribution is incorrect.
