Oil on canvas. Winter scene. White house with green door and shutters. Addition to house on left with two story columns. Ground covered in snow. Tree in foreground partially obscuring view of house. Another house in distance on right. Blue sky, trees behind house colored in shades of purple. Wide wood frame painted gold. Note on back of stretcher "Colonial House, Litchfield/(Corner House)/Artist: Adelaide Deming"

This house is located on the corner of North St. and East St. Known as the Corner House or Butler House.
Comment
Adelaide Deming was an artist and educator working largely in New York, although she kept a residence in Litchfield. She studied at the Art Students League and with artists like William Merritt Chase. She taught at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn from 1902 to 1910. Deming was a member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the Paint and Clay Club of New Haven, the Kent Art Association, the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, and the American Watercolor Society.
