Description
Pencil Sketch by William J. Brewster on board. In foreground, a river runs left to right before becoming a waterfall. In background on right, brick and wood bridge crosses river to forested area, including a tilted power line. Also ac" and at bottom right "W.J. Brewster".
Provenance
There are handwritten notes in ink and pencil on the back of a cardboard insert included in the removed frame. "I remember this mill and dam. It (dam) was badly damaged during the 1955 flood and the bridge was replaced at that time also. Theodore P. Litwin". Below, in different writing " This mill was built by Charles Baldwin Webster who loved on E. Chestnut Hill and ground grains from his farm and for any others who brought grain to his mill." These notes are now stored in the accession file.
Comment
William J. Brewster was a reverend who lived in Litchfield from 1916 until his death in 1952. He was rector of St. Michael's Church 1916-1933.
