Description
Charcoal or graphite (pencil) portrait, on paper, of John Fernie Williamson of Litchfield. Head and shoulders portrait of a middle-aged man, facing forward. Sitter wears a dark jack and vest, white shirt, and dark cravat. He has medium-length, dark hair with a full beard but no mustache. The drawing is set beneath a white oval mat with gilt inner border, under glass in a decorative oval frame with applied metal decoration in the same of leaf and seed clusters. On reverse, numerous illegible notes written on bare wood with pencil, with additional (and later) notes written on paper and tape and attached with tape (loose at time of donation, stored in accession file). One note identifies the portrait as "Fernie W. Hunt's/Grandfather Williamson."

Object obtained from the estate of Fernie Hunt, the grandson of Elizabeth Wheeler and John F. Williamson. Companion portrait of Williamson's wife (done as photographic portrait) in LHS archival collection, 2018-50-0.
