Description
This evening coat, which has no discernable waistline, is a fine example of evening wear in the 1920's. It is made out of gold lame with machine embroidered design. The neck is wide and sits high above the wearer's shoulders. The arms are loose, puffing slightly at the elbow and tapering at the cuff. Small embroidered peacocks decorate the front, back and arms. The peacocks are alternately detailed with pink and blue spots. The hem, neck, and back of he arms are embroidered with an abstract floral design. The decorated collar folds over onto the back of the coat, where the floral design is also visible. The front of the coat, on either side of the open area, is decorated with a strip of embroidery depicting tigers, gazells, and flowers. The entire coat is reminiscent of Asian style. This is especially seen in the buttons. The coat is fastened by three large buttons. The buttons and button holes are formed by pieces of gold lame cord twisted in a lotus flower design. The buttons themselves are round and covered in gold lame. The coat is lined with gold-colored silk.
