Description
Square base with four ball feet; oval stand surmounted by an oval urn with gadrooning half way up the body and a band of foliated engraving at top. The high top is also partly gadrooned and has a ball finial, which turns and lifts up to allow steam to come out of perforated holes. A long molded spigot emerges from front of urn with a fancy handle topped by a green ivory acron. On each side is a heavy cast lion's head with a pendant ring in its mouth. Inside is an oval silvered plate fitted into opening with a hole in center under which is a metal tube soldered to plate for holding a length of cast iron, which was heated and inserted into tube to keep contents hot. It has two loops each side of hole to hold inserted plate. There is an oval in front in the engraved decorative hand on which is engraved the initials "BMT" for Benjamin and Maria Tallmadge. This was probably given to Colonel Tallmadge and his second wife, Maria Hallett, when they married May 3, 1808
