Description
Ivory fan from China, 28 sticks, held together with white silk ribbon, all over cut-out work, pattern of vines, sunflowers, roses and birds, central sheild with the initils "B I" (Betsy Perkins Ingraham) two ovals either side with watercolor scenes, left with house and carriage house (Perkins House i Norwich) and young couple, on right with older couple. Brought by Capt Solomon Ingraham for his bride Betsy Perkins.
Comment
The fan was supposedly commissioned to illustrate and include the Perkins house in Norwich in the left oval. Betsy Perkins Ingraham, was the daughter of Captain Andrew and Elizabeth Taylor Perkins, of Norwich, CT. Sister of Charles, Abbe and Harriet Perkins, Litchfield Law School and Female Academy students.
