Description
Dummy rifle made of pine, tin and iron. Stock and barrel are made of pine. The barrel is fastened to the stop of the stock with three bands of tin tacked to them. Iron finger guard screwed to underside of stock.

This item was found in an a house in Morris, CT prior to 1971.
Comment
The donor of this item reported that it was used for practice during the Civil War. The item also shows evidence that it may have been used as a torch handle. Rifle shaped torch handles were very popular for night-time parades during and after the Civil War.
