Description
Black mourning veil, shear black silk crepe, crinkled and spotted texture, gathered at one end with a ribbon tie, and large hand-stitched hem at the opposite end. Worn by Mrs. Horace Bissell (Emily J. Barker) (1820-1902), presumably after the death of her first husband, Horace Bissell (1821-1866). The widow Bissell married the widower Leverett J. Waugh of Morris in 1868, he died in 1879.
Comment
It is unclear from the accession records whether or not this mourning veil was worn by Emily Barker Bissell Waugh for the death of her first, Horace Bissell d. 1866, or seocnd husband, Leverett Waugh d. 1879. The veil could be from either period.
